Crella (Yvesia) rosea is an encrusting to massive sponge of orange-pink to ocher-yellow colour that may reach 20-30 cm long. Its outlines are irregular, covered with lobes and depressions which gives it a very irregular shape and which allows many species, brittle stars, annelids... to find refuge there. Its surface is lumpy, covered with a thin membrane which reveals by transparency many darker superficial channels. The oscules are numerous, large, rounded or more or less elongated. They are essentially distributed over the upper lobes.
Crella (Yvesia) rosea likes strong currents and nutrient-rich waters. It is therefore a species that is commonly encountered in estuaries but also in coastal areas between 5 and 100 meters deep. It lives in the northeast Atlantic from Ireland to Portugal and the Western Mediterranean.
